Performing Arts

The Cheerleaders are a group of students who promote school spirit and participation in intercollegiate athletics. This group cheers at all football and basketball contests. Try outs for this squad are conducted once each semester. Participants can receive academic, physical education credit for their involvement.

Dickinson State University Chorale is the principal vocal ensemble on campus. The group performs choral literature from Renaissance to contemporary. Participants are offered one hour of academic credit and meet four times per week. The Chorale appears in concert at least once each semester and takes frequent tours.

Choral Union 
The Choral Union is a large choral ensemble comprised of University students and interested singers from the tri-state region. This ensemble rehearses Monday evenings from 7-9 p.m. beginning in late September or early October. The term culminates with a performance featuring Handel's Messiah in early December. Participation is open to any interested singer.

Color Guard 
This Color Guard works closely with the Marching Band to perform at the home football games. The group uses teamwork to choreograph the flag and dance routines and learn the different techniques involved in the performance. Anyone who is interested in being in the squad can join. The Color Guard meets three times per week until the football season is over.

Concert Band 
This group meets three times per week to prepare music for concerts and tours. Requirements include the student's having performed in high school organizations and possessing a willingness to work with a great group of students. The individual need not be a music major or minor to participate in this group.

Jazz Band  
Requirements for this group include the performance of an instrument used in jazz band: saxophone, trumpet, trombone, drum, bass, guitar, or piano. The individual need not be a music major or minor to participate in this group. 

Pep Band  
This instrumental group performs for home football and basketball games. It is made up of players from the concert band.

Speech and Debate Society 
The purpose of this organization is to develop student’s skills in public speaking, advocacy, rhetoric, logic and argumentation. The society will also help increase students’ awareness and critical evaluation of current political, social, economic and cultural issues while preparing students to enter the world as strong leaders and effective communicators

University Players 
The club exists to promote the theatre arts within the University and community of southwest North Dakota . The Players also serve to encourage student participation in the theatre arts and enrich the existing DSU Theatre Department.
