Academic Success Center
At Dickinson State, the first-year experience consists of EarlyBird Registration during the summer, orientation activities prior to the start of the fall semester, Freshman Seminar during your first semester here, and academic advising by your Seminar instructor for your entire freshman year.
Freshman Seminar provides you with important information for succeeding in college. Students improve their time-management and study skills, learn how to use the library, become familiar with the various computer systems in place on campus, and acquire the knowledge they need to make a successful transition from high school.
Some departments also offer Learning Communities for their new students by linking certain required classes with their Freshman Seminar. Learning Communities give you the chance to participate in two or three classes with the same group of students, allowing you to make some good friends early on.
