Laura Nelson was appointed the interim vice president of finance and administration in January 2019. In this role, Nelson oversees several departments, including business affairs, mailroom services, public safety, human resources and information technology services. She works in conjunction with the staff within the administrative services division to create a positive campus environment that is safe and well maintained for students, faculty, staff and visitors to Dickinson State University. She also serves on the President’s Cabinet and the President’s Advisory Council.

Nelson came to DSU in June 2017 to serve as the University Controller. Her professional experience includes working as a budget specialist for the Department of Human Services, where she prepared budgets for legislative presentation, and as a senior accountant for both Eide Bailly and Flynn and Associates, PC. She began working in higher education in 2011 and held positions at the University of Mary and Mayville State University prior to accepting the position of Controller at DSU.

Nelson earned a MBA from the University of Mary and a Bachelor of Science in Business, with minors in accounting and administration, from Mayville State University.
