FAQ - Tutoring Center

Tutoring Defined

What is peer tutoring?

At Dickinson State, peer tutoring refers to educational sessions with a fellow student. Trained peer tutors with subject-area expertise provide one-on-one, informal, academic support to other DSU students. If you’re struggling with one class or several, talk with a peer tutor.

Tutoring Appointments

No, but there is no guarantee a tutor will be available unless you make an appointment. However, you are welcome to stop by anytime and check.

To make an appointment, you can stop by May 209, call 701-483-2122, or email dsu.tutoringcenter@dicknsonstate.edu.

Generally, you can make a 30-minute appointment. If you need more time, you can make additional appointments. If you wish, you can even set up regular weekly appointments. Contact us for help with scheduling.

We specialize in one-on-one tutoring. However, for some courses, group tutoring can be beneficial. Contact us if you’re interested in participating in a group tutoring session.

Most sessions take place in the Tutoring Center in May Hall, Room 206. Sometimes, though, sessions are held at alternate locations. When this is the case, the location will be noted on the Tutoring Hours Schedule posted outside the Tutoring Center. You can verify an alternate location by emailing the tutor.

Tutoring services are included in your tuition fees, so there is no additional cost.

If you can’t make it to an appointment, please cancel it as soon as possible by calling the Tutor Center at 701-483-2122, emailing the tutor, or emailing the Tutoring Center at dsu.tutoringcenter@dickinsonstate.edu. If you need assistance, please contact us or stop by the Tutoring Center.

Yes. You must be attending a course on a regular basis in order to request a tutor for it.

Bring everything you need for your assignment to your session. This might include your assignment sheet, your textbook, source materials, and so on. Also, bring something to write with and something to write on. You should come prepared with questions about the subject or assignment you’d like help with and expect your tutor to help you and guide you, not do the work for you.

NetTutor is available 24/7, free of charge, and is embedded into each Blackboard course.
