Michael Jennings started at Dickinson State University in 2023 as an assistant professor
and facilitates criminal justice and sociology courses. He previously taught criminal
justice at the University of Arkansas -Fort Smith. For nearly two decades, Michael
served as a juvenile probation officer working on criminal cases and status offenses
and specialized in youth gangs. In 2010, he earned the Program of the Year award from
the Arkansas Juvenile Justice Coalition for creating a martial arts diversion curriculum
for at-risk teens. He is a former member of the Texas Gang Investigators Association,
Arkansas Juvenile Officers Association and a present member of the Academy of Criminal
Justice Sciences. Michael’s academic interests include tribal justice, criminal justice
ethics, constitutional law, and community corrections.
The Washington State native and U.S. Navy veteran lives in Dickinson with his wife
of 20 years and their two dogs, and his hobbies include fishing, hunting, cooking,
and watching movies.
