Chip Poland joined Dickinson State in September 2006 and serves as Chair of the Department
of Agriculture and Technical Studies. In this role, Dr. Poland supervises the academic
department and the DSU rodeo program. Additionally, he holds a 50 percent academic
appointment as a professor of agriculture. Poland also serves on the Provost’s Academic
Advisory Council and is co-chair of the Undergraduate Research Committee. Poland active
in the Dickinson community as a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and is the current
president of the Dickinson Rotary Club. Before accepting his position at Dickinson
State, Poland was an Area Livestock Specialist for North Dakota State University for
12 years, headquartered at the Dickinson Research Extension Center. Prior to that,
he was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Animal Sciences at West Virginia
University. Poland earned an Associate of Applied Science in Agriculture from Potomac
State College, a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and a Master of Agriculture
from West Virginia University and a Ph.D. in Animal Science from South Dakota State
University.
