Dr. Olalekan Ayodele Sipasi joined Dickinson State University in 2025 as an Assistant
Professor of Agriculture. He teaches several agricultural courses such as Agricultural
Accounting, Agricultural Marketing, Principles of Crop Production, and World Food
Crops. His teaching approach emphasizes experiential learning, engagement with local
agricultural enterprises, and applying classroom knowledge to real-world agricultural
challenges.
Dr. Sipasi earned his Ph.D. in Horticulture and Natural Resources from Kansas State
University. His doctoral research examined the intercropping of culinary mushrooms
(Stropharia rugosoannulata) with tomatoes and asparagus under organic mulches, work that reflects his broader
interests in sustainable farming systems, permaculture, and practices that strengthen
both ecological health and community resilience.
Internationally, Dr. Sipasi has contributed to high-level agricultural initiatives.
He was among the young leaders selected to participate in the Berlin Charter on “Creating Opportunities with the Young Generation of the Rural World” ahead of the G20 Summit in Germany. He was also invited by the Technical Centre for
Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) in Wageningen, Netherlands, to contribute
to discussions on implementing climate-smart solutions for agriculture in African,
Caribbean, and Pacific countries.
Beyond academics, Dr. Sipasi is the founder of the ProtectOzone Sustainable Livelihood Initiative, a nonprofit organization in Nigeria that works to reduce poverty and hidden hunger
through sustainable agriculture, permaculture education, and youth and women’s empowerment.
Through ProtectOzone and other collaborations, he has secured multiple grants from
the U.S. Department of State, the German Embassy in Nigeria, and other international
partners to deliver training in permaculture design, sustainable agriculture, and
agribusiness. His leadership work has extended to projects in Nigeria, Ghana, and
Bangladesh, as well as service with the Kansas Permaculture Institute and the Staley
School of Leadership at Kansas State University.
His contributions have been recognized through several awards, including the Mandela
Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, the Robert Nunemacher Scholarship
at Kansas State University, and multiple U.S. Consulate–funded project awards.
At Dickinson State, Dr. Sipasi is committed to mentoring students, developing partnerships
with local producers, and supporting the university’s mission of preparing students
for leadership and service in agriculture and related fields.
