Hawk for Hire

At Dickinson State University, we want to do all we can to help you succeed in all your current and post-university work force endeavors.

This page includes information about working on-campus, working-off campus, and internships.

Your professors and the Career Development Office will help connect you with employment and internship opportunities appropriate to your field of study. These experiences supplement your classroom learning and help you build professional experience.

On-campus employment

DSU offers on-campus employment opportunities for qualified students. Some of these jobs offer winter and spring breaks off. There are two types of on campus employment, federal work study and institutional work study. Jobs for federal and institutional work study are posted in Applitrack.

Federal Work Study

Federal work study may be available to you as a student if you demonstrate financial need through your Federal Application for Student Aid (FAFSA).  A work study award indicates that you are eligible to seek federal work study employment; however, it is not a guarantee of a job. Jobs span across the entire campus and to some eligible off-campus employers as well. Positions may vary from clerical work to research, from service to security.

Institutional Work Study

Institutional Work Study may be available to you as a student if you are enrolled in at least six credits. It is not based on financial need. Positions are available on campus and wages vary depending on the job.

Benefits of Working in a Student Job

  • Additional financial resources.
  • Acquire valuable work experience for your résumé.
  • Reduce necessity for student loans.
  • Opportunity for networking with professionals.
  • Opportunity to sample different career choices.
  • Valuable and practical career-related experiences.
  • Exposure to the world of work.
  • Opportunity to enhance fundamental work skills.
  • Develop a sense of community and involvement with DSU.

Off- Campus Employment

There are many job opportunities available in the Dickinson and North Dakota areas for students and graduates looking to build their professional experience. You can access resources for local employment through the North Dakota Job Service. You are also welcome to stop by the Career Development Office on the second floor of May Hall to look at jobs that are posted by community members.

Student Job and Internship Fairs

Each year we host student job and internship fairs that attract local, state, and regional employers. Students are encouraged to attend these events and explore internship and employment opportunities. These events will be listed on the DSU event calendar and on the NAVIGATE mobile app.

Employers are welcome to attend job and internship fairs. Whether you are looking for part-time or summer help or looking to help a recent DSU graduate get a head start on a career, we invite you to come and speak with our students about your work place goals. Please contact Career Development for more information at 701-483-2101 or dsu.careerdev@dickinsonstate.edu

Employers are also welcome to set up a table session in the Student Center. Hosting an informational table is a great way to advertise your organization and share internship and/or employment opportunities with DSU students. The Student Center is a popular student hang-out, almost every student living on campus will see your table. Please contact Career Development for more information.
