Paul Amberg began working at Dickinson State University as the Director of the Stoxen
Library in January of 2023. Prior to that position, Amberg was the Outreach Librarian
at the Dickinson Area Public Library.
Amberg graduated from Minot State University in May of 2020 with a B.A. in History,
a B.S. in Management, and concentrations in Native Studies, Political Science, and
International Business. In May of 2022, Amberg graduated from the University of Southern
Mississippi with a Master of Library and Information Science.
Amberg is a member of the North Dakota Library Association’s (NDLA) Intellectual Freedom
Committee and was nominated to run for NDLA President in 2022. Amberg is passionate
about learning and protecting First Amendment rights to access materials at the library.
Amberg has also had at least 13 articles published in newspapers about issues regarding
libraries, their programming & offerings, and their future.
Amberg also obtained certification as a Genealogy Librarian through the University
of Wisconsin-Madison in 2016. Genealogy is a passion for Amberg and he presented
on using DNA in Genealogy at the 2018 NDLA Annual Conference.
