Niles Haich joined Dickinson State University in 2021 as an Assistant Professor of English. A
proud Dickinson State University alumnus, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Writing
and was a scholar in the Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership Program. Haich credits
the program with giving him the confidence to pursue graduate studies at North Dakota
State University, where he earned a Master of Arts in English with an emphasis in
Composition and Rhetoric. He often says he is both a "proud Blue Hawk" and a "proud
Bison."
Haich began his teaching career at North Dakota State University in 2009 and has since
accumulated more than 17 years of college-level teaching experience. Before returning
to Dickinson State, he served as a lecturer at Baylor University, a full-time English
faculty member at Texas State Technical College, and a tenure-track English faculty
member at West Virginia University Potomac State College. He also taught at West Virginia
University in Morgantown.
At Dickinson State, Haich teaches first-year writing and literature courses in the
School of Education. He is passionate about helping students develop strong communication,
critical thinking, and analytical writing skills.
In addition to teaching, Haich is an aspiring novelist. He completed the first draft
of his debut work of fiction in the summer of 2026 and is currently editing the manuscript
while pursuing traditional publication.
One of Haich's favorite courses to teach is ENGL 213: Literary Publications, in which
students produce Impressions, Dickinson State University's literary and art magazine. He has served as faculty
advisor and directed the publication of the magazine's past three volumes.
