Dickinson State University’s Esports Valorant team is finishing the 2022-2023 academic year on a high note, qualifying for Nationals in the Challengers Division of the National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC). Eligibility for the NECC Nationals event combines scores from both semesters. The varsity team remained undefeated in their region leading up to playoffs and finished second in playoff play.
DSU also earned second-place in the Collegiate Champions League (CCL), a Midwest regional competition. The team also clinched the first-place trophy in the Fall 2022 tournament.
The NECC Nationals event, which will be an online format, will take place May 8-10, 2023, with 32 teams competing in the Challengers Division. The top eight teams will move on to the finals in June.
Nichols said he’s proud of the team’s performance this year. “Our Valorant team fought hard all semester and always remained a wildcard in their matchups and play styles. The other teams never quite knew what to expect but they always knew we wouldn’t go down without a fight.”
