When the sun warms our beautiful campus, we are often asked what happens during the summer when the students go home. Dickinson State offers many enriching activities and opportunities to our community during the summer months. Whether you are a prospective student eager to dip your toes into college life, a current student aiming to get ahead in your academic program, or a community member looking to engage with our vibrant campus, DSU has something for everyone.
A World of Academic Excellence
At DSU, we pride ourselves on offering a wide array of academic courses designed to meet the diverse interests and aspirations of our students. For those curious about college, we offer introductory courses across various disciplines, providing a perfect opportunity to explore your passions and discover new interests. At the same time, our current students can take advantage of our summer sessions to accelerate their academic journey and work closely with our dedicated faculty.
One of the highlights this summer for our young Blue Hawks is the DSU STEM-World Peace Camp to be held July 22-26. This innovative program for 6th- and 7th-grade students combines science, technology, engineering, and mathematics with a global perspective on peace and conflict resolution. Participants will engage in interactive workshops, collaborative projects, and thought-provoking discussions. This should foster both intellectual growth and a commitment to global citizenship. Seats are limited, so we recommend signing up soon. Information on this camp is available at dickinsonstate.edu/events.
Athletic Adventures and Youth Camps
Our athletics department is buzzing with activity, offering numerous camps and events that cater to athletes from around the region. The Sanford Sports Complex (SSC) has been hosting youth softball games since early in the summer, providing a fantastic opportunity for young players to compete in a state-of-the-art facility in the heart of Dickinson.
Throughout June and July, we have an exciting lineup of sports camps, including volleyball, basketball, and football. These camps are designed to help young athletes develop their skills, build teamwork, and enjoy the camaraderie of sports. Our experienced coaches and staff are committed to providing a positive and enriching experience for all participants. The football camp alone will welcome over 500 participants to Dickinson. Information on youth camps can be found at dsubluehawks.com.
Engaging Community Events
DSU is proud to be a hub of community engagement, hosting events that bring together residents of Stark and Billings Counties and beyond. The DSU indoor arena has been the venue for horse-riding skills sessions. This summer, we are excited to host the Stark-Billings 4-H Achievement Days, a celebration of youth development and achievement in agriculture, science, and the arts. This event is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our local 4-H members and their families.
Family Fun Day promises a day of joy and entertainment for all ages, featuring a road race, games, and activities that will create lasting memories for the whole family.
Additionally, The Beginning Project ND will feature the band Jaren. The Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus will also perform on campus, while celebrating our region’s rich Ukrainian heritage.
As we embark on this vibrant summer season, I invite you to explore the many opportunities available at DSU. Whether you are advancing your academic pursuits, developing your athletic talents, or enjoying the diverse array of community events, we have opportunities for you at Dickinson State University. I hope you will visit dickinsonstate.edu/events to stay tuned in to upcoming events.
