Every July 1st, North Dakotans come together to celebrate 701 Day — a statewide tribute to the only area code our entire state shares. It’s a fun, meaningful reminder of what makes North Dakota so special: close-knit communities, friendly faces, and a shared sense of pride in where we come from. Fewer digits. More heart.

At Dickinson State University (DSU), we’re proud to call 701 home. For us, 701 Day is more than just a number — it’s a reflection of our identity in this resilient, hardworking, and deeply rooted state. It marks the start of summer festivities and leads perfectly into the Independence Day spirit that fills our skies and neighborhoods just days later.

Located in the heart of southwest North Dakota, Dickinson is a community built on connection and opportunity. Whether you're exploring downtown, attending a local event, or visiting our campus, you're sure to find genuine hospitality and Blue Hawk pride at every turn. And as a university, we’re proud to contribute to the strength of this region — educating tomorrow’s leaders, partnering with local industries, and helping build a brighter tomorrow.

Public safety and community well-being are foundational to life in Dickinson. Thanks to the dedication of the Dickinson Police Department and the Stark County Sheriff’s Office, our city remains a secure and welcoming place for students, families, and visitors alike. It’s a place where people of all ages can live fully, work with purpose, and thrive.

We also celebrate the natural beauty that surrounds us. Just a short drive from Theodore Roosevelt National Park, DSU is perfectly placed for outdoor adventure. From hiking and wildlife viewing to stargazing and spotting the Northern Lights, the landscapes around Dickinson spark wonder and offer inspiration year-round.

So, from all of us at Dickinson State University — Happy 701 Day! We’re proud to be part of this vibrant region and to celebrate everything that makes North Dakota and our corner of it so extraordinary. Here’s to wide-open spaces, strong communities, and the resilient Blue Hawk spirit that keeps us moving forward.
