Dickinson, N.D. – Saturday, November 1 - Dickinson State University (DSU) and the Southwest Area Career and Technical Education (SWCTE) Academy have signed an agreement designed to enhance educational pathways for students pursuing technical careers. The collaboration builds on the strengths of both institutions and supports the North Dakota University System’s workforce initiatives through DSU’s Dual Mission approach.

This partnership establishes clear articulation and dual credit opportunities between the SWCTE Academy and DSU in key technical areas, including welding and diesel technology. The agreement allows high school and technical students to seamlessly transition into higher education programs at DSU, earning college credit while still completing their secondary education.

"This agreement represents the very best of what our Dual Mission model strives to achieve by creating accessible, affordable, and workforce-driven education pathways for students in our region," said Dr. Holly Gruhlke, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at Dickinson State University. "By partnering with SWCTE, we are helping students pursue meaningful careers in high-demand industries while addressing the workforce needs of North Dakota."

Scott Molander, President of Dickinson State University, emphasized the importance of collaboration in advancing educational and economic priorities. "Partnerships like this are foundational to our role as a Dual Mission university. They bridge secondary, technical, and higher education to build a stronger, more prepared workforce. We are grateful to the leadership of SWCTE and Dickinson Public Schools for their commitment to expanding opportunities for students across the region."

Aaron Anderson, Director of the Southwest Area Career and Technical Education Academy, highlighted the benefits for students: "Our partnership with Dickinson State University provides students a clear and efficient path from high school to rewarding careers. It allows them to earn college credit, save on tuition, and enter the workforce with the skills and credentials employers are seeking."

Marcus Lewton, Superintendent of Dickinson Public Schools, added, "This agreement demonstrates our shared vision for student success and community growth. By connecting secondary education with higher education and workforce development, we are creating pathways that help students stay in our communities and contribute to the region’s economic vitality."

The signing of this agreement reinforces Dickinson State University’s Dual Mission commitment to serving both academic and workforce needs in southwest North Dakota. It aligns closely with the North Dakota University System’s focus on workforce development, emphasizing partnerships that expand access to education and strengthen the state’s economy.
