DICKINSON, N.D. – Dickinson State University (DSU) is recognizing Assistant Professor Amy Kass in honor of International Accounting Day. A distinguished member of the DSU faculty for the past 13 years, Kass has played a key role in strengthening the university’s accounting and business education programs and in preparing students for careers that support the financial health and integrity of regional organizations.

Kass, originally from Hayward, Wisconsin, began her accounting career through dual-credit high school courses at Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College (now Northwood Technical College) in Rice Lake, where she later earned her associate degree. After securing a full-time position at WITC, she spent eight years in public accounting preparing financial statements, managing payroll processes, supporting audits, assisting with tax preparation, and helping new businesses establish QuickBooks systems — all while completing her bachelor’s degree through Lakeland College, teaching online as an adjunct for five years, earning her MBA and passing all four CPA exams.

She later worked in private accounting for a health care organization before relocating to North Dakota in 2011, where she became a certified public accountant. Since joining the DSU School of Business and Entrepreneurship, Kass has taught a wide range of accounting courses, introduced the DSU payroll accounting class, and contributed to the development of the university’s associate degree in accounting.

Her impact extends beyond the classroom. Kass has advised the Business Club and serves as the longtime adviser to Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA, formerly Phi Beta Lambda). She collaborates closely with regional employers to connect students with internships and full-time positions, helping shape a pipeline of qualified professionals prepared to serve businesses and organizations across the region. She is widely recognized for her ability to translate academic concepts into real-world decision-making frameworks, particularly relevant to rural and regional industries. Her work ensures DSU graduates enter the workforce with competitive skills, strong professional habits, and a clear understanding of industry expectations.

“International Accounting Day provides an opportunity to spotlight the educators who build the foundations of a strong financial workforce,” said Ayodeji Arogundade, dean of DSU’s School of Business and Entrepreneurship. “Professor Kass’s dedication, expertise and passion for student success directly contribute to the university’s mission of preparing capable professionals who make meaningful contributions to their communities.”

Dickinson State University is proud to recognize Professor Amy Kass for her sustained commitment to excellence in accounting education and her positive impact on students and the broader western North Dakota region.
