DICKINSON, N.D. — Dickinson State University (DSU) is proud to announce that the Blue Hawk Theatre Guild has received a grant from the Dickinson Convention and Visitors Bureau to support its upcoming production of Teddy & Alice. The musical will be performed in July 2026, coinciding with two major regional celebrations: the 250th anniversary of the United States and the opening of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library in Medora.

The grant will help the Blue Hawk Theatre Guild bring this dynamic and historically inspired production to life, offering audiences a unique cultural experience during what promises to be a landmark summer for tourism and heritage in southwest North Dakota.

“We’re thrilled to bring Teddy & Alice to the stage during such a meaningful time for our region,” said Sarah Crossingham, program advisor for the Blue Hawk Theatre Guild. “The play captures the vitality and spirit of Theodore Roosevelt’s family life, and it’s a wonderful opportunity to connect the community and visitors through art and history. With so many people traveling to celebrate the opening of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, this production gives them another exciting way to experience the story and legacy of our 26th president.”

A spirited Broadway-style musical, Teddy & Alice explores the personal and political life of President Theodore Roosevelt, focusing on his close and complex relationship with his daughter Alice. Set in the early 1900s and featuring a lively score with themes inspired by John Philip Sousa, the play captures the charm and energy of an era that helped shape America’s identity.

Dr. Holly Gruhlke, vice president for academic affairs and provost at DSU, emphasized how this production aligns with the university’s commitment to Roosevelt’s legacy. “Theodore Roosevelt’s life and ideals are a part of our academic footprint at Dickinson State University,” she said. “Through the Theodore Roosevelt Center, which preserves and provides global access to Roosevelt’s digital archives, and the Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership Program, which instills civic responsibility and leadership in our students, DSU is proud to continue celebrating his enduring influence. The Blue Hawk Theatre Guild’s production of Teddy & Alice is a creative extension of that educational mission.”

The July 2026 performances of Teddy & Alice will take place on the DSU campus, with exact dates and ticket information to be announced in early 2026. The production is expected to draw local residents, alumni, and visitors traveling to the area for the Presidential Library opening and the national semiquincentennial celebration.
