A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Keith James is a veteran student affairs professional. Throughout his time in higher education, he has had the pleasure of serving at multiple institutions in Georgia, South Carolina, Texas, and now North Dakota. James has a passion for student engagement and leadership development. Relationships with students are vital to the overall success of an institution.

His areas of expertise include residence life, student activities, student conduct, behavioral intervention, and Title IX. At Dickinson State, James oversees residence life, campus activities, and student conduct while also serving as the Title IX Coordinator for the University. As a member of the North Dakota University System, he serves on the Title IX Task Force, Diversity Council, and Student Affairs Council. He is a past member of the North Dakota University System Mental Health Task Force and Higher Education Consortium for Substance Abuse Prevention. James holds membership with multiple national professional organizations such as: ACUHO-I, ASCA, NASPA, ACPA, and ATIXA.

James is a 2021 graduate of John Brown University with a Master of Arts in Higher Education. His capstone work focused on the development of a residential curriculum for a liberal arts institution.

He is married to his wife Jacqueline and they have one “fur-baby,” Gizmo.
