Due to the predictions of a major winter storm expected to bring high winds and substantial snow accumulations of 12+ inches Monday through Wednesday and Thursday bringing high winds, resulting in blizzard conditions in southwestern North Dakota this week, Dickinson State University has taken the following precautions:

  • All regularly scheduled face-to-face finals will be conducted virtually on Tuesday, Dec. 13 through Thursday, Dec. 15. Faculty will have the following options for conducting finals that cannot be held virtually: 1. Offer each student an option of canceling the final exam and accepting final grades or scheduling an exam at a later date; 2. Offering a student an incomplete and hosting the final at a later day. The final grades deadline for the fall semester (Dec. 21) will stand unless appealed through the respective Dean; or 3. Requesting another accommodation for your final exam through the respective Dean.
  • Residence halls and food service will remain open according to the expressed schedules.
  • For on-campus events, please contact the respective department hosting the event for updates.
  • Students who are planning to travel home or elsewhere over the break are recommended to leave Monday afternoon, as weather and road conditions are expected to worsen significantly as the night/week progresses.
  • Dickinson State employees are authorized to work remotely on Tuesday, Dec. 13 through Thursday, Dec. 15, unless the employee’s supervisor determines that the employee must be on campus to provide essential services. If supervisors have any questions, please contact Krissy Kilwein in Human Resources at 701.502.4304. For general campus questions, please contact DSU President Steve Easton at 701.502.4430.
  • If snow amounts match or approximate predictions, those who study or work at Dickinson State should anticipate that facilities staff will need time to remove snow from campus sidewalks, roads, and parking lots.

At this time, Fall Commencement will be held as previously scheduled. Any additional updates will be circulated on the DSU website or communications mechanism as the week progresses. For questions regarding commencement, please contact Kathy Meyer at 701.502.4044.
