Sarah Crossingham, assistant professor of education at Dickinson State University (DSU), has been named the Best College Professor for 2023 in The Dickinson Press’ annual Best of the Western Edge contest.

For The Dickinson Press’ annual readers’ choice contest, residents of Southwestern North Dakota nominate individuals and businesses in several categories as “best of” in their area of expertise. Once nominations close, community members then have the chance to vote for their favorite in each category. This year, Crossingham was nominated and received the most votes in the category of Best College Professor at DSU.

"I am so humbled to receive this honor," said Crossingham. "Dickinson State University has a wide array of phenomenal educators, specifically in the School of Education. I am privileged to get the opportunity to collaborate and grow with so many amazing colleagues. I’ve gained so much knowledge from all of the faculty and staff here at DSU. I want to thank our administration for allowing us to be creative and meet the needs of our diverse learners. A special thanks to all of my students, who had helped me grow in this profession."

Crossingham is a native of Missoula, Montana and graduated from Dickinson State with a bachelor’s degree in education in 2011. Continuing her education, she studied educational leadership at North Dakota State University and graduated with her master’s degree in 2020. Prior to her position at DSU, Crossingham was previously a teacher for Dickinson Public Schools and Wishek Public School systems. Notably, Crossingham was recognized as the 2017 North Dakota History Teacher-of-the-Year for Gilder-Lehman in Wishek, North Dakota. Crossingham shifted her sights and began teaching at DSU in August 2022 and teaches various courses in education including: introduction to education, teaching for diversity, methods of teaching social science, education psychology, and more.

“Sarah was selected as the Best College Professor for a reason,” stated Dr. Joan Aus, chair and associate professor of the School of Education at DSU. “Every class she teaches reminds me of what an effective teacher she truly is and the School of Education is very lucky to have her.”

Dickinson State congratulates Crossingham on receiving this well-deserved recognition from her community! Hawks are up!
