Following a national search, Dickinson State University has selected Dr. Huijian Dong for the position of provost. Dr. Dong was most recently the acting dean of the School of Business at New Jersey City University and the academic coordinator at the Kate Tiedemann School of Business and Finance at University of South Florida. Dr. Dong has a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Delaware and is in the process of completing a second doctoral degree in education with an emphasis in adult learning from Columbia University.

Dr. Dong’s experiences lead to successful accreditation, student retention, and faculty development. Additionally, he has an extensive background in curriculum review and program development. He is also a prolific scholar with research work published in the American Business Review, Journal of Asset Management, and Journal of Wealth Management, to name a few.

“We are very excited to have Dr. Dong joining us,” stated Steve Easton, DSU president. “He will bring education, experience, and expertise that will help us make DSU an even better place for our students.”

The provost is charged with overseeing all liberal arts and humanities, including matters pertaining to faculty appointment, retention, and evaluation. The provost will also oversee DSU’s institutional research and academic records offices, as well as the student affairs division, including DSU’s Student Opportunity and Resource Center, on-campus residences, and student activities. It is anticipated that Dr. Dong will play a pivotal role in leading DSU through its upcoming self-study and strategic plan review processes.
