Dickinson, ND - February 14, 2024 - Dickinson State University (DSU) is proud to announce its upcoming production of "bobrauschenbergamerica," set to charm audiences from February 22nd to 25th, 2024. This vibrant and innovative theatrical experience promises to captivate theatergoers with its unique blend of visual artistry, compelling storytelling, and dynamic performances.
Inspired by the life and work of iconic American artist Robert Rauschenberg, "bobrauschenbergamerica" is a thought-provoking exploration of contemporary American culture. Written by acclaimed playwright Charles Mee, the play offers a kaleidoscopic journey through the landscapes of everyday life, weaving together a tapestry of scenes that are at once familiar and surreal.
“bobrauschenbergamerica is a play that is important not only for the cast and our enjoyment, but is also needed to be seen by everyone. It is a show about more than just art, but also about how different people and our individual stories can come together to create something beautiful. The show is captivating and thought-provoking in the most wonderful way, and it is truly a masterpiece of artistic storytelling.” - Maci Wehri, DSU Senior, BA in Theatre and English Literature, actor playing Phil’s Girl in the production.
Under the direction of professor Jarvis Jahner, DSU's talented cast and crew have embarked on a creative odyssey to bring Mee's vision to life on stage. From the bustling streets of New York City to the vast expanse of the American heartland, audiences will be transported on a whirlwind tour of the human experience, encountering moments of joy, sorrow, and everything in between.
"We are thrilled to present 'bobrauschenbergamerica' to our community," said Jahner. "This production is a celebration of artistic expression and the rich tapestry of American life. Audiences can expect to be both challenged and inspired as they journey through the vivid landscapes of this remarkable play. This play is about the human experience, specifically from an American point of view. It draws from the American experience and relies heavily on nostalgia. It uses the pastiche style of Robert Rauschenberg to weave a story that has elements from all of our daily lives. It is at times sad, but also at times wildly funny. It is aware of itself as a theatrical performance, but it draws in the audience in through the lives of these characters. It is colorful and at times seemingly random. It will surprise the audience with beauty. It is very much a reflection of ourselves."
Featuring a diverse ensemble cast and an innovative set design that pays homage to Rauschenberg's groundbreaking artistic vision, DSU's production of "bobrauschenbergamerica" promises to be an unforgettable theatrical event.
Tickets for "bobrauschenbergamerica" will only be available at the door. Don't miss your chance to experience this one-of-a-kind theatrical masterpiece!
