The inaugural Leadership Rising Conference, hosted by Dickinson State University School of Business & Entrepreneurship in collaboration with Baker Boy, Inc. and the Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership Program, was a resounding success with 220 attendees. The event, supported by the North Dakota Economic Diversification Research Grant, convened on Tuesday, April 23rd, 2024.

International leadership authority John C. Maxwell famously stated: “Leadership is not about title, positions, or flowcharts. It is about one life influencing another.” This profound sentiment set the tone for the conference, which delved into the personal impact of leadership and its ripple effects in today's interconnected world.

The conference brought together a diverse array of perspectives and experiences, demonstrating that leadership knows no boundaries. From the disciplined wisdom of Command Sergeant Major Scott Obrigewitch to the entrepreneurial journey of Scott Molander, attendees were treated to a wealth of insights and inspiration. Nancy Sprynczynatyk's global leadership perspective, honed through years of mental health counseling and disaster relief, added a unique dimension to the conference.

Reflecting on the success of the event, Lori Hauf, DSU Dean of the School of Business and Entrepreneurship, remarked, "The Leadership Rising Conference exceeded our expectations in every aspect. We witnessed a remarkable convergence of individuals from various backgrounds, all united by a shared passion for leadership development."

As the curtains closed on the inaugural Leadership Rising Conference, organizers expressed gratitude to all attendees, speakers, and sponsors who contributed to its success. Dr. Debora Dragseth, DSU Baker Boy Endowed Professor of Leadership, emphasized the input of her freshman LEAD296H class. “I am so grateful for my conference co-planners, who have been strategizing since January to make this the best event possible.” Class member Katie Frank noted, “During my time in the LEAD296H class I was able to learn so much. Not only did I learn how to set up a conference, but I also learned what makes a good leader.”

This event is just the beginning of a journey towards cultivating impactful leadership with our students and our community. The DSU School of Business and Entrepreneurship looks forward to working with its partner, Baker Boy, Inc., to build on this momentum and continue to empower leaders at all levels.

For those who missed the conference, organizers encourage participation in future events and initiatives aimed at fostering leadership excellence.
