Dickinson State University (DSU) is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded a $140,000 grant from the Registered Apprenticeship Program for Teachers (RAP-T). This significant grant highlights DSU’s continued dedication to addressing critical educational needs in the region and beyond.

The RAP-T grant is designed to support innovative apprenticeship programs that prepare future teachers with the hands-on experience and educational support needed to excel in the classroom. With this funding, DSU will expand its capacity to develop robust apprenticeship opportunities that bridge the gap between academic training and practical teaching experience.

Dr. Holly Gruhlke, DSU vice president, expressed her enthusiasm for the grant, stating, "We are excited to receive this award. This funding allows us to further our goal of addressing the teacher shortage that is impacting our communities by providing practical education to aspiring teachers. Our apprenticeship program is crucial in equipping future educators with the tools they need to succeed in today’s dynamic classroom environments."

The grant will be used to enhance the existing RAP-T initiatives at DSU, which include partnerships with local school districts, mentorship programs, and targeted professional development for participants. The program aims to prepare teachers who are not only academically proficient but also well-versed in the practical challenges of the modern educational landscape.

DSU is cooperating with six schools, including Dickinson Public Schools, Belfield Elementary School, Killdeer Public School, Mott-Regent Public School, Drake Public School, and New England Public School. The hope is to continue to grow these collaborations in the future to support all regional schools interested in participating in the program.

Dr. Joan Aus, dean of the School of Education, added, "This grant is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our faculty and students. It allows us to continue to innovate and provide unique learning experiences that prepare our students for successful careers in education."

DSU remains committed to fostering partnerships and creating opportunities that benefit students, educators, and the broader community. The RAP-T grant will play a pivotal role in these efforts, reinforcing DSU’s status as a leader in teacher education.
