The Dickinson State University (DSU) Nursing program is making significant strides in collaboration with the North Dakota Board of Nursing to ensure program accreditation and meet required teaching loads. The program remains in good standing with its accreditation and is committed to maintaining the highest standards of nursing education.

In response to workforce shortages and the evolving healthcare landscape, DSU Nursing has been working closely with industry partners to devise solutions that address these challenges. A key focus is adapting to new regulations that require registered nurses in hospitals and long-term care facilities. To meet these demands, DSU Nursing is actively developing a two-year registered nurse pathway to accelerate the number of qualified graduates in this area. These changes will result in the transition of current degree options into new programs for our nursing students.

At this time, DSU Nursing is planning a range of pathway options to cater to the diverse needs of our students and the healthcare industry, including:

  • A one-year Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certificate (diploma)
  • A two-year Associate in Registered Nursing program
  • A four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN)

Dickinson State remains dedicated to ensuring students’ success and their ability to provide the highest level of care to the communities they serve. To support this mission, DSU Nursing has already hired full-time faculty members and is working with a series of adjunct instructors to fill immediate needs while we continue actively recruiting additional nurse educators.

Due to accreditation standards, DSU is also reviewing the structure of the Nursing Program's advisory board to ensure compliance and enhance the effectiveness of program oversight. Dickinson State University looks forward to the continued success of the DSU Nursing program as we work together to meet the growing demands of healthcare in North Dakota.
