As a new academic year begins at Dickinson State University (DSU), the campus is pleased to welcome 77 Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership Program (TRHLP) scholars, both returning members and those just starting their journey. This year's cohort is the largest in many years, a testament to the program's growing impact.
On the evening of August 27, the TRHLP welcome-back dinner set the tone for what promises to be a year of growth, learning, and leadership.
TRHLP Director Michelle Orton told the scholars, “You are all fortunate to be a part of something special. I am confident that this year will be one of accomplishment for each of you.” She emphasized that leadership, in her view, is the ability to bring out the best in others.
DSU Vice President Dr. Holly Gruhlke noted that the 26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt, once said: “Far and away the best prize that life offers is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.” According to Gruhlke, this quote perfectly captures the spirit of the TRHLP.
Throughout the 2024-2025 academic year, TRHLP scholars will be engaged in meaningful partnerships with various local organizations, including the Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce, House of Manna, SW Art Gallery and Science Center, Best Friends Mentoring Program, and Able, Inc. These collaborations will offer the scholars opportunities to apply their leadership skills in real-world settings while making a positive impact on the community.
