In the span of one week, Dickinson State University’s Baker Boy Professor of Leadership Dr. Debora Dragseth, delivered two notable presentations.
On November 13, 2024, Dr. Dragseth presented “From Hello to Hired: How Building Connections Can Transform Your Career” to students at Iowa State University. The interactive workshop centered on crafting effective elevator pitches to build professional networks. Participants practiced delivering concise, memorable self-introductions while exploring the transformative power of genuine connections. Dr. Dragseth emphasized the importance of confidence and communication in career growth.
On November 19, 2024, she shifted gears to present “Writing with Purpose” to the North Dakota Public Communicators in Bismarck. Her session challenged professional writers to tailor messages for unconventional audiences, such as pirates and super villains, pushing them to think outside the box. Dr. Dragseth incorporated her national award-winning articles to illustrate how targeted communication can captivate and engage.
Vice President Dr. Holly Gruhlke noted, “Presentations like these illustrate how our faculty educate audiences outside of the campus, underscoring DSU faculty’s commitment to community engagement. By sharing their expertise, Dr. Dragseth and other DSU faculty validate the University's mission: to providing high-quality, accessible programs; to promote excellence in teaching and learning; to support scholarly and creative activities; and to provide service relevant to the economy, health, and quality of life for the citizens of the State of North Dakota.”
