Dickinson State University (DSU) proudly recognizes Ann Wittkopp, dean of the School of Professional Studies, for receiving the North Dakota Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ND ESGR) Patriot Award, an honor that highlights exceptional support for members of the National Guard and Reserve in the workplace.

Wittkopp was nominated by TJ Dempsey, assistant professor of psychology and Specialist of the North Dakota Army National Guard, for her steadfast support of his military service. From accommodating early departures for military entrance processing, training, and drill weekends to providing flexibility and assistance with work responsibilities, Wittkopp consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to ensuring Dempsey could meet both his military and professional obligations.

“A huge congratulations to Ann Wittkopp for receiving the ND ESGR Patriot Award!” said Dempsey. “Ann’s unwavering support is a testament to the great partnerships between military service and higher education.”

The Patriot Award is a distinguished recognition presented by the ESGR to supervisors who go above and beyond in supporting National Guard and Reserve employees. The award is especially meaningful because nominations must come directly from a service member or their spouse.

“To be recognized with the Patriot Award is truly humbling,” Wittkopp said. “Knowing that my support made a positive impact on my employee's service is incredibly meaningful. I accept this award with sincere gratitude and honor, and I’m deeply touched by their nomination.”

Wittkopp’s leadership exemplifies the powerful role that empathy, flexibility, and encouragement play in fostering a supportive workplace for those who serve. Her recognition not only honors her personal dedication but also reflects the values upheld by Dickinson State University.
