The Student Education Association (SEA), a student organization within Dickinson State University’s School of Education, is strengthening its impact through leadership, service and hands-on learning experiences.

The organization is advised by Laura Leiss, assistant professor of education, and Marisa Riesinger, assistant professor of education, and is led by president Emma Welch, vice president Rikky Wyatt, secretary Johnnie McClusky and treasurer Mackenzie Conzelman. SEA includes about 20 members preparing for careers in education.

SEA participated in several events this year, partnering with the Imagination Library of Stark County during the DSU Homecoming parade, where members distributed more than 400 books to support early literacy and connect with local families. The organization also hosted a fall Friendsgiving, providing an opportunity for students and faculty to share a meal and play games.

Members volunteered at DPS elementary school book fairs, the DPS Foundation Mystery Dinner Theatre and the Imagination Library of Stark County’s Pizza and Pals event. SEA also recently completed a student room makeover, putting classroom skills into action.

“I’m very proud of the work that our SEA performs for the campus community as well as its K-12 partners,” said Joan Aus, dean of the School of Education.

The organization will hold recruiting and informational sessions in February, provide support at the Science Olympiad held at DSU on Feb. 26, and host its annual Mario Kart event on March 26.
