Eight members of the Dickinson State University (DSU) Range Club traveled to Monterey  to attend the annual Society for Range Management conference, gaining hands-on experience and industry connections.

Accompanied by advisor and professor Danielle Harper, the students participated in workshops focused on rangeland management and agriculture in California. Sessions highlighted regional practices and introduced students to a range of professional resources available in the field.

“This trip was a great experience that helped expand my knowledge on range and just life in general,” said student Kaylee Kinsey, a junior and member of the DSU Range Club.

In addition to workshops, the conference provided opportunities for networking, allowing students to meet professionals and build connections within the industry. A social event featuring a live band brought attendees together for an evening of music and community.

Outside of conference activities, the group explored several California destinations, including San Francisco and San Jose. Students visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium and shopped along Cannery Row. In San Francisco, they viewed the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island, which many described as a highlight of the trip.

The final stop brought the group to the Winchester Mystery House, where a nighttime flashlight tour concluded the trip.

For many students, the trip marked several first-time experiences, including flying, visiting the ocean, and traveling to California.

The DSU Range Club plans to attend next year’s conference in Wichita.
