Dickinson State University (DSU) will celebrate the achievements of its Spring 2026 graduates during the Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 16 at 10:00 a.m. MT in Scott Gymnasium.
Student Speakers to Address Graduates
This year’s student speakers are Mychal Reanne Cook and John-Michael Gonzalez Jr.
Mychal Reanne Cook will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in addiction studies. A passionate advocate for recovery, brain injury awareness, and community connection, she serves as a peer support specialist with the North Dakota Brain Injury Network and co-founded the Brain Injury Survivor Opportunity Network and The Beginning Project ND. She is a recipient of the North Dakota Training Academy for the Addiction Professional scholarship and plans to complete her clinical hours toward becoming a Licensed Addiction Counselor.
John-Michael Gonzalez Jr. will graduate with a degree in Exercise Science, with an emphasis in Strength and Conditioning, and a minor in Coaching. A member of the DSU baseball team, he also completed a strength and conditioning internship in 2025. He plans to pursue a master’s degree at DSU while completing his final season of baseball.
Honoring Academic Excellence
A total of 214 students will be recognized during the ceremony, with some earning multiple degrees or certificates, including:
- 33 master’s degrees
- 150 bachelor’s degrees
- 28 associate degrees
- 65 certificates
Additionally, 70 students will graduate with honors, recognizing their outstanding academic achievement.

We are confident they will strengthen their communities, support regional and state workforce demands, and make a lasting impact wherever their careers take them,” said Dr. Holly Gruhlke, vice president of academic affairs and provost.
“Commencement is a powerful milestone that reflects the hard work, perseverance, and determination of our students. At Dickinson State University, we are proud to celebrate graduates who are prepared to lead, serve, and make a meaningful impact in their communities. We look forward to seeing all they will accomplish in the years ahead,” said President Scott Molander.
