The Theodore Roosevelt Center at Dickinson State University is sponsoring a one-day conference May 21 at Sulgrave Manor in the United Kingdom. Sulgrave Manor is the ancestral home of George Washington and a heritage site for Anglo-American relations. The event is part of the America 250 celebrations in the United Kingdom.
Several high-profile speakers will reflect on the history of the “special relationship” from the Revolutionary War to the present day. Among the speakers are Hugh Wilford, award-winning author of America’s Great Game; Katherine Carter, author of Churchill’s Citadel; Elizabeth Ingleson, author of Made in China; and Tim Oliver, author of Understanding Brexit.
The keynote speaker is Kevin Weddle, professor of military theory and strategy and the Elihu Root Chair of Military Studies at the U.S. Army War College. Weddle is a retired Army colonel and veteran of Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom. His second book, The Compleat Victory, won the Gilder Lehrman Prize for Military History, the Fraunces Tavern Museum Book Award and the Society of the Cincinnati Prize.
Sam Edwards of Loughborough University organized the event, and Dr. Michael Patrick Cullinane will represent Dickinson State University. For further information and tickets, visit www.sulgravemanor.org.uk.
