Dickinson State University (DSU) hosted the Southwest Regional Science Olympiad Competition on March 14, 2024, welcoming over two hundred area middle and high school students to campus.

This annual competitive event, organized by DSU Science faculty and students, brings together the brightest young minds from across the region to showcase their scientific knowledge and skills. The Science Olympiad is more than just a competition; it's an international non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of science education, fostering student interest in scientific pursuits, and honoring excellence in science education among students and teachers alike.

At the heart of the Science Olympiad are the academic competitions, which feature a series of team events covering a wide range of scientific disciplines, including biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, and technology. These events are designed to challenge and motivate participants, requiring a balance of scientific knowledge, process skills, and real-world applications.

“DSU has hosted the Southwest Regional Science Olympiad Competition for over 25 years. We were thrilled to welcome local students and their teachers to campus for another exciting Olympiad.” said Elizabeth Freedman Fowler, science faculty at Dickinson State University. “The various events cover topics like Anatomy, Fossils, and Ecology that are strong parts of our majors here. We are especially proud of the 70+ DSU students who volunteered their time to help run this competition. Our students showed that they are science leaders. It was great to see our students energized by these young scientists.”
