The Outstanding Graduate Award (OGA) is Dickinson State University's highest honor bestowed on graduating seniors. The following students were nominated by the faculty in their academic schools for exceptional performance in their field of study, campus involvement and leadership, and service to the community. Overall OGA winners will be announced at the Outstanding Graduate Ceremony, held Friday, May 10, 2024, at 2:00 PM MT in the DSU Student Center Ballroom.


Cody Asbeck- School of Business and Entrepreneurship

Throughout his journey at Dickinson State University, Cody Asbeck has displayed an unwavering commitment to academic excellence and personal development. Balancing rigorous studies with active participation in extracurricular activities, Cody's dedication shines through his membership on the DSU Football Team from 2020 to 2023, where he demonstrated leadership and teamwork. His engagement in community service events through DSU Football and his employment at Bravera Bank since March 2023 showcases his talent in his field.

As a National Honor Society member from 2021 to 2024 and a Student Ambassador in 2021, Cody has demonstrated leadership both academically and within the university community. Beyond his academic pursuits, Cody aspires to a career in the banking industry, aiming to ascend to the role of a regional or market president for a large bank. Additionally, his passion for coaching football and basketball reflects his desire to mentor and inspire others.


Braxtyn Braun- School of Business and Entrepreneurship

Braxtyn Braun's academic journey at Dickinson State University has been marked by active engagement in the Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership Program (TRHLP). Her leadership within TRHLP has led to the organization of impactful events like the Etiquette Dinner, offering valuable professional development opportunities. Alongside her academic pursuits, Braxtyn has effectively balanced roles as a monument company sales consultant and Business Development and Project Management Consultant.

Braxtyn's commitment to community service is evident through her involvement with non-profits such as Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership and Women Empowering Women, where she holds positions as Director of Recruitment and Board Member, respectively. Her dedication has not only impacted others but also enriched her own life, recognized through accolades like the Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership Bunsen Burner Award and the Above and Beyond Award. Looking forward, she intends to continue her career in monument sales and Business Development and Project Management Consulting, using her professional endeavors as avenues for fostering growth and positive change.


Hailey Greef- School of Education

Hailey Greef's time at Dickinson State University exemplifies her commitment to academic excellence and passion for educational leadership. Hailey's commitment to pursuing a career in education is driven by her desire to inspire young minds. Through leadership roles in organizations like the Student Education Association, membership in the Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership Program, and participation in initiatives such as Education Back in Action, Hailey has demonstrated her ability to mentor and inspire others while broadening her horizons and nurturing leadership skills. Her involvement in community volunteer work and the Best Friends Mentoring Program underscores her dedication to serving others.

Hailey's career aspirations revolve around positively impacting children's lives by empowering them with the tools and mindset needed for academic and personal success. She aims to be an influential figure in the education community, guiding individuals toward collective growth and contributing to a brighter future for all. Brittany Helm- School of Professional Studies

Brittany Helm's time at Dickinson State University has been marked by her unwavering dedication to psychology and academic excellence. As a Bachelor of Science candidate majoring in psychology with a minor in history, Brittany has showcased exceptional commitment to her studies and her future in the psychology professional community. Her active participation in extracurricular activities, such as tutoring psychology students and presenting at the Celebration of Scholars on the Benefits of Art Therapy, underscores her ambitions to excel academically.

Throughout her academic journey, Brittany has played integral roles in campus organizations, notably serving as Treasurer for the DSU Past and Politics United Club and member of the DSU Psychology Club. Recognized for her leadership and contributions, including volunteering at Governor Doug Burgum’s State of the State Address, Brittany's career aspirations are aligned with her passion for mental health advocacy. She aims to pursue a master's degree in clinical mental health counseling to address mental health challenges and substance addiction, reflecting her ongoing commitment to making a meaningful impact in her field.


Erica Martinez-Meza- School of Applied Sciences

Reflecting on Erica Martinez-Meza's journey at Dickinson State University can be described in one word- dedication. In addition to her rigorous nursing studies, Erica juggled being a full-time parent to three wonderful children. Despite the challenges of being a nontraditional student, Erica's commitment to making a positive impact has been evident through her leadership roles within the Nursing Student Association (NSA), where she received the Student Nurse of the Year award and the NSA Senior Leadership Award. Her extensive campus and community involvement, including organizing a mission trip to Guatemala, demonstrates her passion for service.

After earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Erica aims to pursue a career as a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit nurse or a Pediatric nurse, driven by her love for caring for children. She plans to further her education and become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, leveraging her experiences and dedication to continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.


Madeline Olsen- School of Education

Madeline Olsen's dedication to education and public history has been evident throughout her time at Dickinson State University. She has demonstrated a unique passion for creating engaging and relatable history lessons, fostering deep and meaningful interactions with the subject matter. Madeline's commitment to academic excellence is highlighted by her numerous speaking engagements at collegiate conferences, where she has shared insights on leadership and presented her public history research. Notably, she played a pivotal role in securing Dickinson State University's Power Plant as a Dickinson Historical Local Landmark.

In addition to her academic pursuits, Madeline has been actively involved in campus organizations such as the Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership Program and Past and Politics United. She has held leadership positions and contributed to community outreach initiatives, including judging the North Dakota State National History Day competition. Madeline's career goals reflect her desire to inspire lifelong learners and ignite a passion for history and education, embodying William Butler Yates' sentiment that "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire."


Jocelyn Ott- School of Applied Sciences

During her academic journey, Jocelyn Ott's has accomplished remarkable achievements in academics, athletics, and leadership. Hailing from a small town in Montana, she embraced the challenges of being a first-generation college student and excelled in the nursing program, graduating at the top of her class. Jocelyn's dedication to nursing is evident through her leadership roles in the Nursing Student Association (NSA) and her work as an LPN, where she demonstrates compassion and skill in patient care. Alongside her academic pursuits, Jocelyn's athletic prowess shone as a member of the Blue Hawk women’s track and field team, earning conference championships and national qualifications in the long jump event. Despite her demanding schedule, she also found time to contribute to campus life, serving on the Campus Activities Board and volunteering with the Special Olympics as a direct support professional.

Jocelyn's career aspirations in critical care reflect her commitment to making a difference in the healthcare field, with plans to eventually pursue a nurse practitioner program. Being nominated as an Outstanding Graduate holds profound significance for Jocelyn, validating her hard work, perseverance, and growth throughout her time at DSU. It serves as a testament to her dedication and preparation for the challenges ahead, instilling in her a sense of pride and gratitude for the opportunities she has embraced as a Blue Hawk.


Nickolas Page- School of Applied Sciences

Nickolas Page commitment to excellence extends beyond the classroom, evident through his active participation in various events and organizations on campus while maintaining a perfect grade point average throughout his academic career. Nickolas has volunteered countless hours to support DSU and its students, embodying a spirit of service and dedication. As a member of the Men’s track team from 2021 to 2024, Nickolas not only excelled athletically but also contributed to the community by helping organize track and cross-country events for elementary school students. His leadership roles as a Dickinson State Student Ambassador and Resident Assistant demonstrate his passion for mentorship and community engagement. Nickolas has organized and facilitated events addressing critical issues such as mental health awareness and drug and alcohol abuse.

Looking ahead, Nickolas plans to attend the University of Montana to pursue a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. His career goal is to remain in rural Montana, where he intends to educate and provide care for those in underserved areas. With a deep love for his hometown and a desire to make a positive impact, Nickolas is poised to be a compassionate and influential figure in his community, both professionally and personally.


Luisa Popp- School of Business and Entrepreneurship

Luisa Popp's journey at Dickinson State University is characterized by her exceptional commitment to making a positive impact both academically and socially. As an international student from Germany, Luisa's dedication to fostering a sense of community and belonging is evident through her various initiatives, including spearheading recycling efforts on campus and securing a grant from the North Dakota Department of Health to enhance communication, especially for international students, during the Covid-19 pandemic. Her leadership extends to the athletic realm, where she shared her knowledge and experience as a JV coach for the women's basketball team, positively influencing incoming freshmen. Additionally, Luisa's research on telehealth counseling challenges in rural North Dakota, funded by the Economic Growth and Diversification Research Grant, sheds light on critical mental health issues.

Beyond her academic and research pursuits, Luisa has been actively involved in campus organizations and offices, serving as president of the DSU Psychology Club, a graduate assistant for University Relations, and a Resident Assistant. Her diverse engagement also includes participation on the Women's Basketball team, DSU Cheer, and the International Club, demonstrating her versatility and dedication to fostering a vibrant campus community. Looking ahead, Luisa plans to further her education in counseling and pursue a PhD, aiming to make a meaningful difference in addressing mental health challenges and contributing to academia. Being nominated as an Outstanding Graduate for the second time is a testament to Luisa's impactful contributions and dedication to excellence, affirming the positive influence she has had on DSU's campus environment.


Alexander Praus- School of Professional Studies

Alex Praus has spent four years at Dickinson State University, showcasing exceptional perseverance and dedication while balancing academics, football, faith, work, and various extracurricular activities. With a consistent Presidential List grade point average, Alex's academic excellence mirrors his unwavering commitment to education, even while managing multiple jobs. His leadership and character on the football field earned him the 2023 North Star Athletic Association Football - Champions of Character award, highlighting his exemplary conduct both on and off the field.

Throughout his time at DSU, Alex actively contributed to campus and community organizations, including the Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership Program, Blue Hawk Catholics, and the Dickinson State Football team. His involvement in the Best Friends Mentoring Program from 2018 to 2022 underscores his dedication to community service and supporting those in need. Looking ahead, Alex aims to pursue a career in Physical Therapy. His ultimate goal is to return to his hometown of Dickinson, providing exceptional PT care to the community through outpatient services, driven by his commitment to serving others and making a meaningful impact on people's lives.


Alexis Puev- School of Professional Studies

Alexis Puev has demonstrated exceptional dedication to her academic journey at DSU while excelling in athletics and community involvement. Her commitment to graduate within three years and her aspirations to become a chiropractor highlight her unwavering determination and focus. Engaging as a student-athlete in volleyball and as a member of the Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership Program, Alexis showcases her dedication to personal growth and community service.

Alexis's leadership extends across various domains, including her roles as a Resident Assistant, Senior Leader of the DSU Volleyball team, and active participation in campus events and organizations. Through tutoring, recruitment efforts, and community service projects, she has displayed dedication and grit. Accepted to Palmer University of Chiropractic, Alexis aims to refine her skills under experienced chiropractors before establishing her own practice, dedicated to providing personalized chiropractic care to her community.


Maci Wehri- School of Education

At DSU, Maci Wehri has been defined by her exceptional leadership and dedication to both academics and extracurricular activities. Throughout her four years, Maci has held numerous leadership roles, including President and Vice President of the Campus Activities Board and Secretary and Vice President of the University Players. Despite the challenges of managing multiple responsibilities, she has maintained an impressive grade point average while actively participating in thirteen theater productions and promoting agriculture as 2022 National Miss Agriculture USA.

Beyond campus, Maci's impact extends to the national stage, where she was recognized as an Outstanding “Agvocate” for the Miss Agriculture USA Organization. Her passion for public speaking and theater, combined with her commitment to promoting agriculture, reflects her desire to make a positive difference in her community and beyond. As Maci looks toward the future, she aims to merge her interests in agriculture, public speaking, and theater to pursue a career that helps others find their voice.
