Dickinson State University (DSU) is pleased to provide an update on the ongoing efforts to restore and strengthen its Nursing Programs. The university is actively working to ensure that students receive a high-quality education while addressing the needs of the program.
“The work our nurse administrators have done in a short time has been impressive,” stated Ty Orton, DSU acting president. “We feel our students are going to be delivered a quality education this fall, and we will continue to strengthen our program as time progresses.”
“At the heart of our efforts is a steadfast commitment to meeting the needs of our students and the broader community we serve,” said Carey Haugen and Collette Christoffers, DSU nursing programs administrators. “We understand the vital role our program plays in training the next generation of healthcare professionals for this region, and we are focused on ensuring that our students have the resources, support, and quality instruction they need to succeed.”
Faculty Recruitment and Hiring Efforts
A top priority for DSU has been the recruitment of highly qualified instructors to lead the nursing program. The university has seen a positive response, with a pool of candidates eager to teach in Dickinson, as well as others interested in online teaching roles due to the evolving program timeline. DSU continues to actively recruit and encourage interested individuals to apply for these critical positions. The search for dedicated educators reflects DSU’s commitment to providing students with the best possible learning experience.
Accreditation Status and Program Support
DSU’s nursing programs remain in good standing with accreditation, though one of the programs is under review with cause. The university’s nurse administrators are diligently working to ensure that all reports and documentation accurately reflect the program's current and future needs. This proactive approach aims to maintain the integrity and quality of the program while addressing any areas of concern. The process is done with oversight and guidance of the North Dakota Board of Nursing, which is committed to the success of DSU’s nursing program, as stated in recent public meetings.
Student Support and Course Offerings
DSU remains dedicated to supporting its nursing students through active advising and scholarship opportunities. As the fall semester approaches, the university is ensuring that all necessary courses will be offered to meet student needs.
Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) Courses: Most LPN courses will be offered face-to-face, with minimal changes to the delivery format. There may be occasional online courses as needed.
Registered Nursing (RN) Courses: All RN courses will be offered as scheduled in Campus Connection this fall. Lecture courses will be delivered online synchronously, meaning students will attend classes at the same time as their instructors, allowing for real-time interaction and engagement with both instructors and classmates.
Clinical and Skills Labs: All clinical and skills lab sessions regardless of level (LPN and RN) will be conducted in person as previously scheduled, ensuring that students receive the hands-on experience critical to their training.
The required course materials, including textbooks and ATI resources, remain unchanged, providing continuity in the learning experience.
DSU remains committed to the success and well-being of its nursing students, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and support needed to excel in their studies and future careers. The university will continue to provide updates as the program progresses and new developments arise.
