Meet Cassidy Venner, a graduating senior majoring in physical and health education from Billings, Montana.

Recruited to play softball at Dickinson State University (DSU), Venner was drawn not only to the opportunity to excel as a student-athlete but also to DSU’s strong academic programs. The community-centered campus and chance to build lifelong friendships made her decision to attend DSU an easy one.

Venner attributes much of her academic success to the support and mentorship of DSU’s dedicated faculty. One professor who made a significant impact on her journey is Sarah Crossingham, assistant professor of education. Venner shared how Crossingham’s ability to connect with students personally motivated her to reach new heights academically and personally. “I am eternally grateful for Professor Crossingham’s guidance and the profound impact she had on my life,” expressed Venner.

Over her four years at DSU, Venner created countless unforgettable memories, but one moment stands out above the rest—winning the softball conference tournament in May 2024. Reflecting on the experience, she said, “The unwavering support from DSU and the community that came to cheer on the softball team was unmatched to any other experience I have been a part of. It is something I will never forget!”

On December 20, Venner will proudly walk the stage at DSU’s Fall 2024 Commencement Ceremony. Looking ahead, she plans to remain at DSU to pursue a master’s degree in sports administration with an emphasis on athletic leadership. During this time, Venner will also continue to take advantage of her remaining softball eligibility. Her ultimate goal is to build a career in physical education while advancing her studies.
