Dickinson State University (DSU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Hunter Flynn as the new director of admissions. Flynn previously served as the assistant director of admissions, beginning in November 2024. As a proud DSU alumnus, he is excited to step into this role and represent his alma mater in this leadership capacity.
In this position, Flynn aims to streamline the operations of the Admissions Office and improve overall efficiency. He embraces a philosophy of “meeting students where they are,” which includes focused recruitment efforts in classrooms, on social media, and through digital advertising. Flynn is especially committed to reaching students in Dickinson and the southwest North Dakota region, with tailored outreach strategies that position DSU as the hometown university of choice.
Flynn is encouraged by DSU’s growth potential, as higher education institutions nationwide face an enrollment cliff. He is committed to leading the university’s admissions efforts with a focus on innovation, adaptability, and strategic recruitment in a changing educational landscape
“It’s an honor to step into the role of director of admissions at Dickinson State University,” said Flynn. “I’m excited to lead our admissions team as we build meaningful connections with students and families and showcase the incredible opportunities Dickinson State has to offer. DSU has had a profound impact on me as a student, an alum, and as a staff member and I am proud to be recruiting the next generation of Blue Hawks!
Flynn now leads the DSU Admissions team, providing oversight and strategic direction for the university’s recruitment efforts. The team includes admissions counselors Meagan Fox, Makayla Grijalva, and Hayden Wempen, who bring energy, experience, and a shared commitment to student success. Together, they are enthusiastic about the direction of the Admissions Office and are dedicated to strengthening DSU’s outreach and enrollment initiatives.
In addition to the admissions counselors, two new positions have been added to the office. A digital media specialist will support both the Office of Marketing and Communications and the Office of Admissions in creating authentic, engaging content across digital platforms, with a focus on prospective student outreach.
The second new role, early university coordinator and admissions evaluator, is designed to streamline admissions operations and accelerate the application decision process. This position also focuses on building and maintaining strong relationships with local and regional high schools, helping tailor the DSU experience to prospective students in the area.
“Dickinson State University is excited about the new direction of the Admissions Office,” said DSU President Scott Molander. “I am confident that Hunter will bring strong leadership and a clear vision to this role, and I look forward to the continued growth and success of our enrollment efforts under his guidance.”
With Flynn’s leadership and a dedicated team behind him, DSU is well-positioned to enhance its recruitment strategies, deepen its community connections, and continue offering students a high-quality, personalized college experience. The university remains committed to innovation, accessibility, and ensuring that every student feels at home at Dickinson State.
