Dear Incoming College Freshman,

First off, congratulations and welcome to Dickinson State University! You’re about to begin one of the most exciting and transforming chapters of your life. It might not always feel that way in the beginning, but every challenge, opportunity, and new experience will help shape you into the person you’re meant to become.

If I could offer one piece of advice, it would be to get involved and connect. Whether it’s joining a club, attending athletic and school events, or introducing yourself to someone new in class, the relationships you build here will be some of the most meaningful ones that you’ll take with you after graduation. DSU is a strong community, and the more you put it, the more you will get out.

Academically, don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Professors genuinely care about your success and are always willing to help if you take the initiative to reach out and connect with them. Go to class, be on time, and turn your assignments in. People will work with you when you work with them!

Finally, enjoy this time. Go to games, explore Dickinson, take time for yourself, and remember why you’re here. College is as much about becoming the person you were made to be as it is about what you study.

Be courageous and remember that you can do this! I’m excited about everything that’s ahead of you. Make the most of your time here because you’ll be amazed by how fast it goes.

Welcome to DSU!

Sincerely,
