Memorial Day is a day of remembrance honoring the men and women who gave their lives while serving in the United States military. The observance serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by service members to protect the freedoms and values of the nation.
The community is invited to attend the annual Memorial Day Program at 11 a.m. MT Monday, May 25, in Stickney Auditorium inside May Hall on the Dickinson State University campus. The event is organized and sponsored by the Matthew Brew American Legion Post No. 3 and hosted by Dickinson State University.
The program will open with remarks from Dr. Rich Brauhn, vice commander of American Legion Post No. 3, former Dickinson State vice president of academic affairs and Vietnam War veteran.
This year’s Memorial Day address will be delivered by veteran John Schneider.
The program will include patriotic music performed by the N-Compass Chorus, a Prisoner of War/Missing in Action presentation, Taps, a rifle salute by the Honor Guard and a benediction by Deacon Bob Stockert.
Community members are encouraged to honor the memory of fallen service members by decorating graves, wearing a poppy and sharing their stories.
The event is free and open to the public.
