Methods of Delivery

Traditional Classroom

  • Attendance: Students enrolled in this section are expected to attend class in-person.
  • Delivery: Course materials, discussions, and assessment activities will primarily take place in the classroom. Some instructors may choose to utilize Blackboard for some course materials, discussion threads, and assessment activities.
  • Schedules: Courses will follow the traditional start and end dates. Instructors will determine all due dates for course activities.

Online

  • Attendance: Students enrolled in this section participate in fully asynchronous format.
  • Delivery: Instructors will utilize Blackboard for distribution and collection of all course materials, discussion threads, and assessment activities.
    • NOTE: Some course (i.e. COMM 110 Fundamentals of Public Speaking) may have required times for students to meet synchronously.)
  • Schedules: Courses will follow the traditional start and end dates. Instructors will determine all due dates for course activities.

Hybrid/Hyflex

  • Attendance: Students enroll in a technology-enhanced instructional model that allows students and faculty to interact in person or remotely. The Hybrid-Flex educational model is a powerful tool as it allows for synchronous live participation in both modes, and students are able to choose how to participate.
  • Delivery: Course materials, discussions, and assessment activities will be available for all students in both the physical location and via the learning management software, Blackboard. Students can actively participate face-to-face with instructors in the classroom and with other students synchronously, logging in from anywhere at the assigned class time. If students cannot attend class in person or synchronously, a recording of the lecture will be provided for students in Blackboard and supported learning platforms.
  • Schedules: Courses will follow the traditional start and end dates. Instructors will determine all due dates for course activities.

DSU Live Online

  • Attendance: Students enrolled in this section are able to choose to attend class synchronously via a live video session or asynchronously by watching recorded lecture videos at a later time.
  • Delivery: Instructors will utilize Blackboard for distribution and collection of all course materials, discussion threads, and assessment activities.
    • NOTE: DSU Live Online sections will generally be listed in conjunction with a Traditional Classroom section as listed above.
  • Schedules: Courses will follow the traditional start and end dates. Instructors will determine all due dates for course activities.

Interactive Video Network (IVN)

  • Attendance: Students enrolled in this section are expected to attend class in-person. (Locations in Dickinson, Bismarck and Williston)
  • Delivery: Course materials, discussions, and assessment activities will primarily take place in the classroom locations. Instructors are advised to utilize Blackboard for delivery of course materials, discussion threads, and assessment activities for students at distance sites.
    • NOTE: IVN sections will be listed as BSC Horizon Building, DSU Bismarck Site or DSU Williston Site)
  • Schedules: Courses will follow the traditional start and end dates. Instructors will determine all due dates for course activities.

SPICE

  • Attendance: Students enrolled in this section are expected to attend class in-person. (Locations are at remote sites where there may only be one student.)
  • Delivery: Course materials, discussions, and assessment activities will primarily take place in the classroom locations. Instructors are advised to utilize Blackboard for delivery of course materials, discussion threads, and assessment activities for students at distance sites.
    • NOTE: SPICE sections will be in conjunction with an IVN section as listed as DSU SPICE Site.
  • Schedules: Courses will follow the traditional start and end dates. Instructors will determine all due dates for course activities.
