The Dickinson State University (DSU) Concert Band will perform their spring concert on Tuesday, April 30. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. MDT in Dorothy Stickney Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public. All people in the community are invited to attend.
Dr. Brian Holder, assistant professor of music and band director, explained, “The final concert of the year is always an exciting performance, and this year, I am pleased to feature our students in two unique ways.” According to Holder, “The members of the Advanced Conducting course will each lead one selection, while another student who is nearing his student teaching will lead another. All of these students are studying music education, and the conducting experience is an important step on their career path.” The DSU student conductors are Josmar Zepeda, Michaela Watkins, Heather Lewis, and Isabel Steckler.
The concert will feature a truly special performance by three members of the same family. Amanda Housel, Michaela Watkins, and Hannah Housel, a mother and her two daughters, will be performing in a clarinet trio. Their featured performance will be Leroy Anderson’s "Clarinet Candy." This unique opportunity to see a family perform together with the group is not to be missed.
DSU is committed to providing high-quality learning experiences to support the educational, cultural, and social aspects of the institution’s mission for the southwest North Dakota region and beyond. The spring concert reflects this commitment to substantive learning on campus and for the community.
