Dickinson State University is proud to announce Rusty Dan as the student speaker for the Commencement Ceremonies on Saturday, May 11, 2024. Rusty, hailing from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, embodies the spirit of academic excellence, leadership, and service that represents the DSU graduating class of 2024.
Graduating with a degree in Business Education and a minor in Special Education, Rusty has exemplified dedication and achievement throughout his collegiate journey. Balancing coursework with extracurricular activities, Rusty served as chapter vice president for both Future Business Leaders of America and the Student Education Association, showcasing his leadership abilities and commitment to his peers.
In addition to his academic pursuits, Rusty excelled as an athlete, participating in wrestling and shooting sports. His discipline and sportsmanship on the mat were matched only by his dedication to mentoring others as a Resident Assistant and Student Opportunity and Resource Center student assistant.
Rusty's passion for special education led him to intern at Dickinson Middle School, where he honed his teaching skills and gained valuable hands-on experience. He also served as a substitute teacher for area schools during his program.
Guided by mentors including his mother Leilani Dan, Dean of Students Kayla Noah, and professors Hoffman and Braunagel, Rusty has embraced every opportunity for growth and learning.
Post-graduation, Rusty plans to embark on an adventure as a kayak guide in Alaska and New Zealand before returning to Coeur d'Alene to pursue a teaching career. With aspirations of obtaining a Master's in Secondary Education, Rusty is determined to prepare students for success in the workforce and make a lasting impact on their lives.
Rusty Dan's commencement address promises to inspire his fellow graduates as they embark on their own journeys beyond the walls of Dickinson State University.
