If you are reading this, we know two things about you. First, you like to learn. That, after all, is the point of reading. Second, we know you care about Dickinson State University. That, after all, is the point of “From the Hawks’ Nest.”

So we have a proposition for you: Why not take a DSU class this fall?

“Well,” you might be saying, “I already have a degree.” If you do, congratulations. If that degree is from Dickinson State, double those congratulations. But you should still take a course, or several of them, from us this fall.

DSU is now officially accredited as a master’s degree institution with five program options. Our Master of Education in Elementary Education is for credentialed teachers who want opportunities for increased compensation and advancement. The Master of Arts in Teaching is for those whose undergraduate degrees were in non-education disciplines but are looking for licensure as secondary teachers. We have two pathways to increased opportunities in the business world: the Master of Business Administration and the Master of Entrepreneurship. Lastly, the new Master of Sport Administration in Athletic Leadership is for coaches and others who want to pursue work as athletics or activities directors.

What if you are saying, “But I don’t have room in my schedule to be a full-time student”? That’s not an issue, either. We now have many learners who are taking one or two classes a semester. In some areas, we have eight-week courses, so you don’t even need to commit to an entire semester of learning.

How about “I can’t get to Dickinson for classes”? No problem. Due to new technology, we now offer almost all of our courses via remote access.

“But I can’t get to class during business hours because I work.” We’ve got you covered, with a number of courses that are offered via remote asynchronous access. You can take those classes  any time of day or night.

Perhaps you are tempted to say, “But I am not a fan of the traditional ‘college’ liberal arts stuff.” Dickinson State is now teaching many career and technical education courses. As North Dakota’s “Dual Mission” university, we have programs available in welding, truck driving, and health care, to name a few. Whether or not you already have a degree, this is a great time to get additional skills!

Interested in history? Take a course from one of the world’s leading experts on Theodore Roosevelt. Want to become eligible to teach yourself? The superb teachers in our School of Education provide their classes face-to-face, via live internet delivery, and asynchronously “on your schedule.” [Last year, we had a student attend some of her classes while rocking her baby. How inspiring is that?] There are many other options.

There’s never been a better time to learn from DSU’s wonderful faculty. Fall semester starts Aug. 22. If you are interested in joining us for a class or for a lot of them, please call our Admissions Office at (701) 483-2175 or contact us at dickinsonstate.edu/admissions. For the rest of the summer, we will waive the admission fee if you use the code that the Admissions Office will be delighted to give you when you contact them.

One last enticement: We are in the second year of a two-year tuition freeze, so you will pay the same for your class(es) as the students last year and the students the year before that. Hawks are up, but our prices are not!
