Holy cow! The Dickinson State University (DSU) Agriculture Club is bringing the farm to you! This year, Kids Day on the Farm is scheduled for Thursday, April 20, 2023. This free event, held in DSU’s indoor arena, offers unique experiences for children third grade and younger, along with teachers, parents, friends and families, to learn about life on the farm!

“Kids Day on the Farm is a major annual event for the DSU Ag Club,” stated Chip Poland, chair of the Department of Agriculture and Technical Studies at Dickinson State. “It is a great way for the club to help the community to not lose sight of where their food comes from and how important it is to North Dakota. The fact the college students are also developing and demonstrating leadership, organization, network and communication skills, is just icing on the cake in this enjoyable, family-friendly atmosphere.”

Thanks to the generosity of many local donors, visitors to Kids Day on the Farm enjoy a petting zoo – complete with a miniature horse, a miniature donkey, goats, sheep, calves, bunnies and ducks, along with chicks, horses, pigs and more! And that is just the animals! There are also guest rodeo queens visiting, wagon rides, trips through the soil tunnel, roping lessons, a Farm Bureau booth, and fresh milk and cookies for a treat at the end of the tour.

“Kids Day on the Farm is an amazing community outreach event that the DSU Ag club puts on each year,” said Victoria Moreno, DSU’s Ag Club member. “We are so excited to have community members and students join us for the fun-filled day and learn about North Dakota agriculture! I personally look forward to seeing those smiling faces again!”

The event will run from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. with the last guided tour starting at 4 p.m. Appointments to have a guided tour are arranged every 15 minutes and will last approximately 60-75 minutes long. Each 15-minute increment can accommodate up to three groups – with a cap of 50 kids per time slot.

When registering, the number available indicates the number of people the time slot can accommodate. Please register for the number of people coming (i.e. 20 students and teachers/chaperones) and not the number of classes.
