Highlights

Business education has a long history at DSU. Launched in 1927 as the Commerce Division of Dickinson Normal School, the academic unit consisted of the Department of Business Administration, Department of Secretarial Arts, and Department of Commerce. In August 2017, the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education gave DSU's Department of Business and Management approval to proceed with forming a business school. The International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE) accredited programs are now a part of the School of Business and Entrepreneurship (SoBE). SoBE kicked off its inaugural year by celebrating 90 years of business education at DSU and receiving over 10 national academic awards! In fall 2019, SoBE launched its highly anticipated, first master’s program in entrepreneurship.

Flexible Learning Opportunities

In the School of Business and Entrepreneurship, you can:

  • take traditional, in-person classes,
  • choose DSUlive™ courses that allow you to attend live at a distance,
  • enroll in any of SoBE’s program majors entirely online, OR
  • attend courses offered at our satellite campuses in Bismarck or Williston.

SoBe’s programs are designed to meet your lifestyle. You can earn your business degree at any level—certificate, associate, bachelor’s, or master’s—in a flexible way that works with your schedule and busy lifestyle! Regardless of how you take your courses, you will get a quality education at an affordable price. Check out our recently added MBA program, which offers one of the lowest tuition rates in the region, a price tag just over $10,000!

SoBE graduates perform well on national tests and at business events and competitions. Around 10% of senior DSU business majors per year score in the top 10% in the nation on the exam, an impressive feat considering that their scores are compared against students from much larger institutions.

Our Professional Business Leaders (PBL) chapter performs well at PBL competitions in events that test student knowledge in topics like leadership, business ethics, human resource management, marketing, and finance. Our chapter is led by Amy Kass, assistant professor of accounting, who earned the North Dakota PBL Advisor of the Year Award in 2017. The SoBE PBL chapter consistently has top ranked competitors and national contenders each year.
